President of Mongolia U. Khurelsukh: Renewable energy sources will be added as soon as possible

Mongolia-Green Development The preliminary discussion of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has started at the State House.

The purpose of the discussion is to intensify the work being done in the fields of forestry, energy, and pasture regulation in the context of combating climate change, and to support the constructive participation of the Government of Mongolia in the said conference.

The President of Mongolia, U. Khurelsukh, opened the discussion. He said that Mongolia fully supports the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is working with all its capabilities to fulfill its obligations and commitments under the Paris Agreement.

It was also clarified that the country, which does not have sufficient sources of energy and heat other than coal, intends to urgently increase renewable energy sources.

Mongolia will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which are the main cause of climate change, to 22.7 percent by 2030. In the future, we aim to increase this percentage to 27.2 percent by introducing new technologies and innovations and creating a stable green financing system.

Mongolia plans to spend no less than one percent of its gross domestic product to combat climate change and desertification. Also, the experience, advice, direct and indirect financial support of the private sector, domestic and foreign investors, especially donor countries and international organizations, have a special role.
